Pregnancy Week 26

Baby Development

By this week, the baby will have reached 14 inches in length and 2 pounds. Though there is still space in the uterus, the baby would feel somewhat cramped there. The baby has opened its eyes for the first time this week and can see its surroundings through the newly developed retinas.

The baby might do involuntary movement if a light shines on the womb. The eye color has not been developed and will start developing in a few weeks. The brain activity has started developing. There would be some response like Pulse rate increase or movement in response to noise or light. The baby’s lungs continue to practice breathing and swallowing amniotic fluid. Tiny and sharp fingernails have developed on babies’ small hands and toes.

Changes in mother

By this week, the uterus has reached two and a half inches from the belly button. Another significant change is insomnia, which typically happens during this time. A good diet, little exercise, fresh air, and restricting fluids during the night can help you sleep peacefully. Also, the babies will have more varied and coordinated movements. It, combined with the baby becoming strong, can hurt a little.
